Harvest time comes to Kline Creek Farm in West Chicago
It's harvest time at Kline Creek Farm in West Chicago, operated by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County to demonstrate what farm life was like in the 1890s when farmers were 43 percent of the labor force.
After attending Corn College on Saturday, visitors strolled the fields to help hand-pick the corn, shock the stalks and fill the corn cribs that will feed the farm's cows and sheep over the winter. They also could stop near the farmhouse museum to make a corn-husk figure to take home.
The harvest continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday for all ages. There is no admission charge. For more information, go to www.dupageforest.org or call (630) 876-5900.
