Palatine teen sentenced to 6 years in prison for January shooting
A Palatine teen who fired a weapon last January near Palatine High School pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated discharge of a firearm.
In exchange for his plea, Luis Corona, who is 18 and described as an admitted gang member, was sentenced to six years in prison and $674 in fines. No one was injured in the shooting, which took place about 3:30 p.m. Jan. 23 on the 1300 block of North Rohlwing Road, Palatine, according to authorities.
A school resource officer heard the shots, ran toward them and saw five people who authorities say were the shooter's targets. One of those targets told authorities he saw Corona exiting a vehicle that police subsequently traced to him. Corona later told police he saw a group of people walking and fired when he noticed one of the group members put his hand under his jacket.
