Southern Illinois man gets 67 years for wife's murder

BENTON, Ill. (AP) - A southern Illinois man convicted in the shooting death of his wife has been sentenced to 67 years in prison.

Brian Pheasant of Christopher learned his punishment Friday after a Franklin County jury convicted him of first-degree murder in the Oct. 31, 2016, slaying of 37-year-old Beth Pheasant.

The Southern Illinoisan in Carbondale reports the 46-year-old Pheasant must serve 100 percent of his sentence, meaning he'd be 113 he could be released.

Prosecutors alleged Pheasant killed his wife shortly after discovering she was having an affair.
