Chicago-area Head Start programs getting $3 million

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) - Programs that help babies and young children and their low-income families in suburban Chicago are getting nearly $3 million.
U.S. Sens. Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin say in a news release the money will help families gain access to Head Start and Early Head Start programs through the Evanston/Skokie Community Consolidated School District 35. Specifically, it will help existing education, nutrition and health programs for children from birth until they are 5 years old.
The school district currently serves children from birth to age 5 and their families in Evanston and parts of Skokie. The programs focus on education, nutrition, socio-emotional development and physical and mental health.
