LEADING OFF: Yanks continue odd trip, Swanson could return

A look at what's happening around the majors today:

TOUGH TRIP

The New York Yankees will be back in action, they hope, during a rather strange road swing. Their game at Washington on Tuesday night was suspended in the sixth inning because of rain, and they were washed out the next day at Nationals Park. The Yankees then spent Wednesday night at Dulles International Airport because of bad weather and plane trouble, and traveled to Kansas City on Thursday. After a day off, CC Sabathia and the Yanks take on the Royals. The weather forecast is calling for a zero percent chance of rain.

MAYBE

Shortstop Dansby Swanson could return to the Braves' lineup when they host Miami. Swanson has been on the disabled list because of inflammation in his left wrist. The 24-year-old Swanson is hitting .289 in 28 games for Atlanta.

MAXING OUT

Max Scherzer is dominating this season after winning the last two NL Cy Young Awards. He is 7-1 with a 1.69 ERA for Washington, striking out a league-high 91 in only 58 2/3 innings. Scherzer starts at home and takes on the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have lost six of seven.

AVAILABLE

Right-hander reliever Junichi Tazawa has been designated for assignment by the Marlins. He was cut after giving up three runs in one inning of a 7-0 loss to the Dodgers. Tazawa, who turns 32 next month, is 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA in 22 games. He is making $7 million this year.

"I'm hoping a change of scenery will benefit me and get me back on track," he said in a statement released by the team. "I do feel fine, and that is the frustrating part about all of this."

TRY AGAIN

Alex Cobb makes another bid to post his first win with Baltimore. He is 0-5 with a 7.06 ERA in six starts since signing a $57 million, four-year deal as a free agent late in spring training. He's set to face the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

PERFECT SO FAR

Astros righty Charlie Morton is 5-0 with a 2.03 ERA going into his start at home vs. Cleveland. Morton struck out 14 without a walk in seven innings against Texas in his last outing.
