Suburban theater hosts #MeToo play festival

2nd Act Players, an Evanston theater company whose productions examine how people deal with life issues, hosts its first #MeToo Play Festival beginning this weekend.

The mini-fest showcases six short plays by female writers which, among other subjects, address the impact abuse has on a young woman's life and the fallout from a sex scandal.

"These are some very powerful stories," said 2nd Act founder and artistic director John N. Frank in a prepared statement.

Panel discussions involving audience members, playwrights and others will follow the performances in an effort to promote "ongoing community discussion of important issues," Frank said.

Among the featured plays are Jean Waller's "Cattywampus," about a couple who make discoveries about each other on their way to the Women's March; Anne Segard's "Donnarella Spangle's Feet," about a former circus performer whose past is threatened with exposure; and Cassandra Rose's "Physical," about high school graduates entangled in a sex scandal.
