Baseball: Black, Geneva shut out St. Charles East

Nick Black fired a 2-hit shutout, leading Geneva to a 1-0 win at St. Charles East on Friday.

The Vikings (12-9-1, 9-4-1 in the UEC River) scored the only run of the game in the second on an RBI single by Jackson Chase to score Graham Radabaugh.

Black finished with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in his 105-pitch outing. Brett Brueske was the tough-luck loser for the Saints going 6 innings with 4 strikeouts and just an unearned run. Nobody on either team had more than 1 hit.

West Aurora 6, West Chicago 0: Alberto Martinez fired a 5-hit shutout for the Blackhawks (14-6). He struck out 10 and only walked 1. Dustin Tomas had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs. Cam Zimmerman homered and also had 2 RBI.

Bartlett 14, East Aurora 2: The Hawks improved to 6-12 behind Joey Allen's 3-hit day that included a grand slam and 6 RBI. Tyler Yang also had 3 hits, and Jacob Chowanec, Andrew Fehr, Joey Tomazin and Mike Vaca all had a pair of hits.

Aurora Christian 10, Marmion 8: Eagles leadoff hitter Eric Hernandez went 3-for-5 with 2 runs and 3 RBI as the Eagles built a 10-5 lead before the Cadets rallied for 3 runs in the seventh. Nick Ports also had 3 hits, and Sam Tickel, Jake Kuntzendorf, Zach Zavasnik and Trey Madsen all had 2. Kuntzendorf homered, and MJ Stavola had 2 RBI.

The Eagles improved to 20-2 while the Cadets fell to 8-9-1. Jack Liesen led Marmion with 3 hits and 2 RBI, Mitch Nieweglowski had 2 hits and Charlie Drayer drove in 2 runs.

Kaneland 11, Sycamore 0: Alex Buchanan tossed a 4-hit shutout in 5 innings, striking out 6 and walking 1. Luke Gomes homered and drove in 4 runs, Nick Ortegel went 2-for-2 with 2 runs, and Nik Panico, Thomas Shaw and Logan Piercy also scored 2 runs for the Knights (13-7).

St. Francis 3, Kaneland 2: Angel Acevedo and Nick Ortegel both had 2 hits for the Knights.

Cary-Grove 8, CL Central 0: Ryan Ignoffo (5 IP, 4 hits, 5 Ks) and Quinn Priester (2 IP, 0 hits, 4 Ks) combined on the shutout for the Trojans (13-8-1). Ignoffo also blasted 2 home runs and had 3 RBI, and Priester added a solo home run. Jacob Duncan went 2-for-2 with 2 runs.

CL South 15, Dundee-Crown 5: Riley Tannhauser (4 IP, 1 ER, 3 Ks) got the win for the Gators who got 2 hits each from Scott Skwarek (3 RBI) and Steven Siavelis.
