Elmhurst cops nab suspect in bicycle theft

A 45-year-old Northlake man, Jimmie E. Poole of the 300 block of Geneva Street, has been charged with theft and possession of burglary tools after Elmhurst police said they nabbed him stealing a locked bicycle from a rack adjacent the Metra station at York Street and Park Avenue.

Detectives set up surveillance on Wednesday after residents reported thefts of locked bikes at the station on both Monday and Tuesday.

They said they saw Poole approach the bike around 9:45 a.m., use bolt cutters to free the bicycle and then place it in his vehicle.

Authorities urge other victims of bicycle thefts to contact police.
