Girls soccer: Crystal Lake South snaps Jacobs' streak

The Crystal Lake South girls soccer team ended Jacobs' 8-game winning streak in dramatic fashion Tuesday in a 1-0 Fox Valley Conference win.

The Gators (7-5, 3-1) scored with just 4 seconds left in the match after Abby Wiegand's free kick was kept alive in front of the goal by Taylor Bittenbender. That allowed Julia Lavorata to boot the game's only goal against the Golden Eagles, who were fresh off their PepsiCo title. South keeper Marissa Fetters registered a shutout, keeping Jacobs (8-2-3, 2-2) out of the net with 11 saves.

St. Edward 6, Ridgewood 1: The Green Wave became conference champs for only the second time in program history, winning the Metro Suburban West in convincing fashion. Rachel Martini and Madison Knott topped 2 goals each for St. Edward (11-3-1, 4-0) while Katie Ellsworth tallied 1 goal and 2 assists. Yssa Sto. Domingo had 1 goal and 1 assist and Mia Castro added 1 assist. Goalie Mariel Franco managed 2 saves.

Elgin 2, Streamwood 0: The Maroons (6-7-1, 1-4) benefitted from Makenna Downing and Guadalupe Sanchez's goals to down the Sabres in Upstate Eight River action at Millennium Field. Hayly Munoz and Kylie Graves provided assists while Margie Troyoke had a shutout in goal with 4 saves.

Cary-Grove 2, Huntley 0: Kelly Stayart tallied 1 goal and 1 assist in a FVC win for the Trojans. Kailyn Sheehan had 1 goal and Jenna Stayart had 1 assist for C-G (5-2-2, 4-1), who received 2 saves each from goalkeepers Sydney Schmidt and Lauren Passaglia to shutout the Red Raiders (5-6-1, 0-4).

Kaneland 4, LaSalle-Peru 0: The Rachael Lutter-Abby Taylor connection got the Knights (9-2-1) going in this NI Big XII crossover win. Taylor and Lutter alternated both goals and assists on Kaneland's first scores while Olivia Lutter and Taylor Carlson also scored goals. Rachel Franck had 1 assist.

Harvest Christian 2, Westminster Christian 0: In a battle of Northeastern Athletic neighbors, the Lions (7-5-1, 4-0) stayed unbeaten in conference action thanks to goals from Sonja Jenkins and Hannah Caldwell. Taylor Keeran had 1 assist and Isa Garcia's shutout consisted of 5 saves.

West Aurora 4, East Aurora 2: Audrey Stephens helped the Blackhawks (4-5-2) beat their archrivals with a team-high 2 goals in UEC Valley action. Marlene Sanchez and Alexis Juarez also added goals while Riley O'Brien dished 2 assists. Olivia McPherson also had an assist and goalie Samara Martinez provided 5 saves in net.

Aurora Central 2, Fenton 1: Shannon LoPresti led the Chargers (8-6-2, 1-3) with 2 goals in an MSC West win. Anna Dudziak and Amy Flores supplied assists while Alex Montalbano recorded 5 saves in net.
