Softball: St. Charles East, Kaneland earn wins

Freshman Katie Arrambide had 2 hits with a triple and 4 RBI Friday as the St. Charles East softball team downed Schaumburg 11-3 in a nonconference game.

Also contributing to the offense for the Saints (2-1) were Elliott Sanders (2B, RBI), Hannah Cozzi (2B, RBI), Lauren Luna (2 RBI) and Alex Wooten (2 hits).

Madelyn Rouse was the winning pitcher, allowing 5 hits and no earned runs with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks.

Kaneland 3, Nazareth 2: Hannah Theobald (2B, 2 RBI) and Donatela Sommesi each had 2 hits as the Knights opened their season with a nonconference win over Nazareth, which finished fourth in Class 3A last season. Halley Roach also had an RBI for Kaneland. Emilee Erickson was the winning pitcher, going 4 innings and allowing 2 hits with 8 strikeouts. McKenna Ryan earned the save.

Burlington Central 15, Belvidere North 0: Sophomore Alisyn Catenacci threw a 3-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk as the Rockets (2-1) rolled to a nonconference win. Leading the BC offense were Danielle Yurgil (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Abby Sanders (3 hits, 2 doubles), Lindsey Jamrozek (2 hits), Hannah Nikhikhssl (3 hits, 2 doubles, 4 RBI) and Reili Gardner (3B, 2 RBI).

ACC splits: At the Zaxby's Classic in Tennessee, Aurora Central Catholic defeated Clarksville Northwest 6-0 before falling to Clarksville Byrne 4-0. In the win, Dani Brown threw a 1-hitter with 10 strikeouts and 1 walk for the Chargers. She also had a triple and 2 RBI. Alheli Velazquez added 3 hits with 2 RBI and Lizzie Albert had a double and 2 RBI. Albert also had a double for ACC (3-2) in its loss.

South Elgin falls twice: Also playing in Tennessee, the Storm (0-4) lost to Floyd Central (KY) 7-0 and to Mainland (NJ) 9-2. Julianna Battaglia had 2 hits with a double in the first game and Casey Brennan 2 hits in the second game.

Chicago Christian 7, St. Edward 0: Jessy Kramp had a double for the Green Wave (0-1) in this Metro Suburban crossover. She was also the losing pitcher despite allowing just 3 earned runs with 13 strikeouts and no walks.

Batavia 8, Glenbard West 3: The Bulldogs took advantage of 5 errors to win this nonconference game. Jalen Lisberg had 2 RBI and Aly Bondurant added a triple and an RBI for Batavia. Noelle Chaney was the winning pitcher, allowing 4 hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks.

Geneva 13, Wheaton North 7: The Vikings (2-0) scored 10 runs in the final two innings to seal this nonconference win. Leading the Geneva offense were Ali Dierks (HR), Sam Keller (2B, 3B), Katie Keller (2B, 3B), Alyssa Kramer (2B) and Bella Walton (2B). Emily Viebrock was the winning pitcher.

Huntley 7, Harlem 5: Autumn Kasal (3 hits, HR, 3 RBI), winning pitcher Tiffany Giese (2 hits), Teagen O'Rilley (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Taylor Zielinski (2 hits) and Kendra Mitchell (2 hits) led Huntley (5-0) to a nonconference win.
