Authorities: Breakup may have sparked fatal Indiana shooting

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a domestic breakup may have sparked a fatal shooting that led to a two-day police standoff in western Indiana.

Vigo County Prosecutor Terry Modesitt says preliminary findings suggest that "a domestic situation" preceded Monday's fatal shooting of 40-year-old Amanda Kerns.

Police say 36-year-old Michael R. Reynolds fatally shot Kerns and critically wounded a man Monday at a home in Terre Haute, about 70 miles west of Indianapolis.

The Tribune-Star reports Reynolds then fled to a second home, where state police fatally shot the Terre Haute man on Tuesday following a 20-hour standoff.

State Police said Thursday that a coroner used fingerprints to positively identify Reynolds.

State Police detectives are investigating both Reynold's shooting death and his apparent wounding on Monday by Terre Haute police.
