Fox River declared no-wake between McHenry and Algonquin dams

Due to extreme snow melt, heavy rains, and frozen ground, the Fox Waterway Agency has declared no-wake status on the lower Fox River. The lower river stretches from the Stratton Lock and Dam in McHenry to the Algonquin Dam in Algonquin. No-wake status is usually the first sign of potential flooding, and means boats are not allowed to travel at speeds fast enough to have created a wake. The National Weather Service has predicted water levels will reach minor flood stage Sunday and start to recede Monday. Minor flood stage means water will begin to flood low-lying yards in Holiday Hills, and some flooding will take place in Valley View on Grove Street.
