Help us find Suburban Heroes
We were pleased Sunday to introduce a new feature: Suburban Heroes.
While we're doing so, permit me also to solicit your help in tipping us off to them.
The concept is intended to call attention to the many suburbanites in our midst who do extraordinary, even valiant good works.
We've always believed that a newspaper's job is to reflect the whole of the community. That means pointing out problems, to be sure. But it also means pointing out what's working. To reflect the good as well as the bad.
We try to do that in our reporting every day, but Suburban Heroes is one more concrete way we can focus on the obligation.
The first installment recognizes Hoffman Estates High School teacher Christopher Fetterman and sophomore Kira Nicole Weiland who saved another student from drowning.
The column will appear each Sunday on the welcome screen of dailyherald.com and inside the front news section.
