Ashland sets Division II record for consecutive wins

ASHLAND, Ohio (AP) - Ashland University women's basketball team set the NCAA Division II record for consecutive victories with its 58th straight win on Thursday night, beating Wayne State 101-84.

The Eagles (21-0) topped the previous mark set by the Winona State men's team that won 57 straight games in 2006 and 2007.

Senior forward Laina Snyder and sophomore guard Jodi Johnson each had 24 points to lead the offensive effort. Snyder added 12 rebounds for her 43rd career double-double, while Johnson added seven rebounds and three assists.

Ashland broke the DII women's record with its 52nd consecutive win back on Jan. 6, surpassing the string put together by Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, in 2005-06.

UConn women hold the overall record with 111 consecutive wins that ended in the Final Four last season.
