Pumping stations planned to handle water from new reservoir

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A utility will build two pumping stations in Indianapolis to help handle millions of gallons of water per day from a new reservoir planned in central Indiana.

The Indianapolis Star reports Thursday that the Citizens Energy pump houses will send water to the Central Canal which feeds the utility's main plant.

The newspaper reports that a study by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce estimates demand for water will increase by 50 million gallons per day in central Indiana by 2050.

The new 88-acre (36-hectare) reservoir will hold 3.5 billion gallons of water. It will be in a quarry next to the Geist Reservoir in Fishers.

It's scheduled to open in 2020 and will be able to pump 25 million gallons of water daily into Geist which feeds Fall Creek.
