Stanford women post wire-to-wire 79-42 win over Arizona

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) - Brittany McPhee and Alanna Smith scored 15 apiece and Stanford earned a wire-to-wire 79-42 victory over Arizona on Sunday.

McPhee had 12 points and three of the Cardinal's 10 first-half 3-pointers to propel Stanford (14-8, 8-2 Pac-12 Conference) to a 43-16 lead at halftime. Kiana Williams scored all 11 of her points in the first half and had seven assists. The Cardinal finished with 27 assists on 30 baskets.

Destiny Graham's layup pulled the Wildcats (5-16, 1-9) within 28-16 in the second quarter, but Williams scored the first five points in a 15-0 spurt to close out the half. Smith netted the first eight points of the third quarter to push the lead to 51-16 and Arizona never got the deficit under 30 after that. Stanford won the rebound battle 48-34, dominated scoring in the paint 28-16 and had a 28-12 edge in bench points.

JaLea Bennett topped Arizona with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Marlee Kyles scored 10.

The Wildcats shot just 24 percent from the floor in the first half and missed all six of their 3-pointers.
