BYU to face five Power 5 teams in 2018

PROVO, Utah (AP) - BYU will face another daunting task in 2018 with five Power 5 schools on the 12-game schedule.

The Cougars open the season Sept. 1 at Arizona and also face California, Wisconsin and Washington. They wrap up the regular season at rival Utah. California is the only one of those teams traveling to Provo.

The Cougars will host McNeese State, Utah State, Hawaii, Northern Illinois and New Mexico State with road games against Boise State and UMass.

BYU has tackled difficult schedules in recent years since becoming an independent program.

BYU went 4-9 last season and went 0-4 against Power 5 programs. Coach Kalani Sitake overhauled the coaching staff during the offseason, including replacing offensive coordinator Ty Detmer with former LSU assistant Jeff Grimes.
