BYU hires Hadley as secondary coach, says goodbye to Kaufusi

PROVO, Utah (AP) - BYU has hired former Weber State secondary coach Preston Hadley to coach the safeties.

The university also announced that former linebackers coach Steve Kaufusi has stepped down "to pursue other interests" after being on the staff for 16 seasons.

Assistant head coach Ed Lamb will switch from coaching safeties to the linebackers and coach Kalani Sitake will assist in coaching the defense this season.

Hadley is a former BYU defensive back with five years of coaching experience, including the last two at Weber State. The Wildcats won the Big Sky Conference last season and had two victories in the FCS playoffs.

BYU plans to hire one more offensive coach after an offseason that included the hiring of offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes to replace the fired Ty Detmer.
