Brush fires fought along Route 53 near Schaumburg

Schaumburg firefighters and Illinois State Police responded to a scattering of brush fires along the east side of Route 53 between Higgins and Golf roads near Schaumburg Thursday afternoon, police said.

The initial call was received at about 2 p.m. and no vehicles were involved, Schaumburg Fire Department officials said.

The scattered fires stretched from the top of the northbound exit ramp to Higgins Road to the exit ramp to the I-90 tollway.

Officials were not able to determine the cause of the fire but speculated that sparks from a vehicle may have been to blame. They did rule out any suspicious cause, but police were not able to locate any malfunctioning vehicle along the state route.

Firefighters and police cleared the scene within about half an hour of their arrival.
