Memphis' Norvell tweets that he has signed extension

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis coach Mike Norvell has tweeted that he has signed a contract extension with the Tigers.

Norvell tweeted on his verified Twitter account that he's "so excited about the future of Memphis Tiger football and to announce that I have signed an extension to continue to lead this great program." His tweet didn't reveal details of the extension, but The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal reported that Norvell had agreed to a five-year deal worth a total of $13 million.

Memphis hasn't announced a Norvell extension.

Norvell owns an 18-7 record in two seasons at Memphis. The 19th-ranked Tigers are 10-2 this year and will face Iowa State on their home field in the Dec. 30 Liberty Bowl.

Memphis lost the American Athletic Conference championship game to No. 10 Central Florida 62-55 in double overtime last week.
