Illinois tax rate really is highest

In the Nov. 28 Daily Herald "Your Views" there was a letter written by Mich Barbezat of Elgin saying that the tax rate for Illinois was less than our neighboring states at 3.75 percent. He was incorrect. Our income tax rate changed to 4.95 percent effective July 1, 2017. So, yes, our neighboring states have lower income tax rates than Illinois.
