Jurors rule Chicago police didn't frame woman in son's death

CHICAGO (AP) - A federal jury has ruled Chicago police detectives did not frame a woman who was found guilty and later exonerated in the 2005 death of her son.

Nicole Harris spent nearly eight years in prison after being found guilty of murder in the death of her 4-year-old son Jaquari before being exonerated. Harris has insisted her son's death was a tragic accident. However, lawyers for the detectives who worked the case maintain she "killed her son in cold blood." They contended forensics back up their conclusions.

Harris claimed police fabricated a confession and framed her for the death of her son. Prosecutors argued Harris strangled Jaquari with the cord because he would not stop crying.

A federal appeals court in 2012 overturned Harris' conviction, ruling her older son was wrongly barred from testifying Jaquari accidentally choked himself to death.
