Lake Park High School to present 'Close Ties'

Lake Park High School performs the contemporary drama "Close Ties" by Elizabeth Diggs in November.

The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, Nov. 9 to 11, at Lake Park High School's Dice Auditorium at the East Campus, 600 S. Medinah Road, Roselle.

"Close Ties" shows a family led by Bess and Watt faced with tough decisions as Bess' mother, Josephine, begins to show signs of senility.

Along the way, the couple experiences conflict with their children: Anna, Evelyn, Connie and Thayer. Evelyn's boyfriend, Ira, arrives for the weekend and learns that although the family may face disagreements, they continue to have close ties.

Sometimes painful, sometimes humorous, "Close Ties' portrays the complexity of the relationships people face every day, Director Kathy Weber said.

"This show is very challenging for high school actors," she said. "It requires the cast to draw from their own life experiences to be sure they are giving authentic performances."

The cast features senior Holli Chandler as Josephine; freshman Lily Grosch as Bess; senior Scott Willy as Watt; junior Ashley Kuril as Anna; sophomore Nina Dolan as Evelyn; senior Amanda Brommel as Connie; sophomore Matt Steiner as Thayer; and junior Athens Boyle as Ira.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for non-Lake Park students, and free for Lake Park students and seniors. Tickets are available at the door. For information, call (630) 295-5313 or email lptheatreboxoffice@lphs.org.
