Bike-sharing business plans fleet boost in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - The company running a bike-sharing business in South Bend is planning to more than double the number of available bikes by the end of this year.

California-based LimeBike says it will go from about 800 bikes in South Bend to at least 2,000 under its national expansion plans. LimeBike's South Bend program began in July and has had 22,000 unique riders so far.

The South Bend Tribune reports the company's lime-green bikes are available around the city and the Notre Dame, Saint Mary's and Holy Cross college campuses. The bikes are rented through an online app for $1 per 30 minutes and are returned by engaging a rear-wheel lock.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg (BOO'-tah-juhj) says he's impressed with how the company's bikes have spread throughout the city.
