Rockford man facing drug charges after Elgin traffic stop

A Rockford man is being held on $300,000 bond in Kane County jail after a traffic stop in Elgin, officials said.
Andrew L. Ramirez, 30, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a Class X felony, police said in a Facebook post Thursday.
He was stopped at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of East Chicago Street and Riverside Drive, the release said. During the stop, a police dog inspected the vehicle and alerted officers to the presence of illegal narcotics.
After a more thorough search, officers found two kilograms of what is suspected to be cocaine in his vehicle, the release said.
Ramirez is next due in court Oct. 25.
