Real estate agent who stole from homes gets probation

A Bloomingdale real estate agent pleaded guilty to stealing items from homes in Wheeling and Palatine last year during phony showings.

Jamie B. Detwiler, 38, pleaded guilty Thursday to residential burglary in exchange for 24 months of TASC probation, court records show. TASC - which stands for Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities - is an alternative to incarceration for nonviolent offenders with substance abuse problems. Treatment is a condition of the probation.

Prosecutors say Detwiler used her status as an agent to get lockbox codes for homes on the market. After a homeowner complained about missing items following a showing, police began investigating.

The only people who had access to the house, according to its owners, were people with the lockbox codes.

After police confronted Detwiler as she left a Palatine home in October 2016, she admitted taking items and turned them over to authorities, according to the complaint.

Detwiler, whose license was suspended last year, was also ordered to pay $634 in fines.
