Newcomer Collins, incumbent Stack on way to Harper College board

One incumbent and a newcomer were headed to victory early Wednesday morning for six-year terms on the Harper College Board of Trustees.

With 324 of 326 precincts reporting, unofficial totals from Cook, Lake, Kane and McHenry counties showed Pat Stack of Barrington as the top vote-getter with 22,761, followed by Phil Collins of Wheeling with 16,904 votes. Walt Mundt of Palatine remains out of the running with 13,537 votes.

Collins, who served as a Libertyville Township trustee from May 2013 until moving to Wheeling in January 2016, said he sought out an office in a larger area where he could serve more people, though otherwise he had little connection to the community college.

Stack, appointed in 2015 to fill a vacancy, retired in 2014 as vice president of performance improvement for Northwest Community Hospital, and said she'd use her experience to make sure the college is hitting its student success targets.

Newcomer Herb Johnson of Inverness ran unopposed for the 2-year seat Stack is vacating.
