Des Plaines Office Equipment keeps your office running smoothly

In today's world, an office without technology is not much of an office. We are all tethered to our electronics and other machines. Just consider what happens when your internet connection goes down or the power goes out.

Des Plaines Office Equipment, based in Elk Grove Village, is a definitive source for all of the equipment we use to do business on a daily basis.

Founded in a Des Plaines garage in 1955 where Vince Miceli and one technician sold and serviced typewriters and calculators, this family-owned business now employs 65 people and has offices in Elk Grove Village, Chicago and the Rockford suburbs.

Des Plaines Office Equipment sells and services:

• Printers

• 3D printers

• Copiers

• Computers

• Laptops

• Software

• Shredders

• Video walls

• Video conferencing equipment

• Interactive displays

• Air purifiers

It also offers managed information technology services, print services and document services and handles the destruction of hard drives and smart phones to safeguard sensitive information on discarded devices.

“The majority of our business involves selling, maintaining and servicing copiers and printers,” explained Chip Miceli, co-owner with his brother, Vic. “We also sell and service 3D printers but they haven't been as popular as we had expected and hoped. That may change with the better economy.”

“We are always looking to expand our business in all directions. For instance, video conferencing currently makes up only 5 percent of our business. But with the way the economy seems to be turning around during the last few months, we expect that by the end of 2017, video conferencing and video boards will make up 25 percent of our business.”

“More and more people want to be able to brainstorm with people around the world via videoconferencing instead of having to travel. And now that things are looking better economically, they seem to be ready to invest in these systems,” he added. “They love the idea of getting face time with people without traveling, so we have been getting lots of requests for assessments.”

Changing technology and changing times have also encouraged the Micelis to invest in in-house equipment that allows them to shred discarded computer hard drives and even smart phones for their clients. Recent news reports showing the shocking amount of information left on many second-hand cell phones available for sale is expected to further fuel demand for this security service.

“We are also looking at offering a device which removes humidity from the air and converts it into drinking water. We may be offering that soon,” Miceli said.
