Des Plaines man charged in Niles shooting

A Des Plaines man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after a confrontation outside tavern in Niles that turned violent.

A Niles police officer on patrol at 4 a.m. Sunday came upon a disturbance at the Chasers Bar & Grill parking lot on the 9000 block of Milwaukee Avenue. A gunshot rang out as the officer approached, according to police. A man then fled on foot. The police officer caught up with him on the 9000 block of Churchill Circle, just east of where the gunshot occurred.

Police identified the suspect as Alen Huren, 26, of the 9300 block of Landings Lane in Des Plaines. Huren faces 20 to 80 years in prison if convicted. Huren will appear in court on April 12.

The victim of the shooting, an unidentified 28-year-old man from Lincolnwood, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with a single gunshot wound to the torso. Police reported the man is in stable condition.
