Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?I'm running for election for the first time. I have fifteen years of experience working in schools and supporting the technology needs of students and staff. Among the many issues that motivate me are community interaction and involvement. One of my goals would be to start a citizens advisory committee for the school district. What do you think about the process for measuring student success in your district? Is it adequate? What changes, if any, do you propose?I think the various assessments such as PARCC, MAP, AIMSweb and others that are being used in the district currently are adequate. How big a role do you think the board of education should play in setting the curriculum for students and what ideas do you have for changes to the current curriculum? The board should NOT play any role in setting the curriculum. The board's role should be in ensuring the district has the available resources to support and implement the curriculum. What budget issues will your district have to confront and what measures do you support to address them? If you believe cuts are necessary, what programs and expenses should be reduced or eliminated? On the income side, do you support any tax or fee increases?Schools in Illinois right now are in a tough place due to the lack of a state budget. Funding from the state has been slow and very unpredictable. This makes it harder for our district to plan financially. Also the funding formula for how the state funds schools is going to change. Because of this, it's important for our district to continue to be fiscally responsible and to ensure adequate reserve funds are set aside. I do not support tax referenda or fee increases at this time. What role can and should school choice play in your district? If Congress or the state approves a voucher system or other means giving students broader choices among public and private schools, how will that affect your district? What is the appropriate response for the board of education of a public school system? If Congress or the state approves a voucher system our district would have to comply with it since it would be the law. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?I would like our district to create a long-range comprehensive technology plan to implement a 1:1 computing initiative. A 1:1 computing initiative makes it possible for teachers to differentiate content delivery and student assignments, using a variety of teaching methods and tools. It's important that our district prepares our students for 21st century learning through the use of technology. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Ban Ki-moonWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?To never give up.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Candidate did not respond. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Industrial Arts. It sparked my interest in building and designing things. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?You can do anything you put your mind to.
