Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?Service: I want to serve the community that has given so much to our family. It is not complicated.What do you think about the process for measuring student success in your district? Is it adequate? What changes, if any, do you propose?Every endeavor has room for improvement. We are on the right track and need to keep abreast of the innovations in drilling down to the right data.How big a role do you think the board of education should play in setting the curriculum for students and what ideas do you have for changes to the current curriculum?The Board's duties include ensuring the best learning environment is provided to students. That includes curriculum development. Our job is to ensure we have the most experienced administrators and teachers to work on educational curriculum and provide that to our students.What budget issues will your district have to confront and what measures do you support to address them? If you believe cuts are necessary, what programs and expenses should be reduced or eliminated? On the income side, do you support any tax or fee increases?Butler is well financed and fiscally responsible. We do not need a tax or fee increase.What role can and should school choice play in your district? If Congress or the state approves a voucher system or other means giving students broader choices among public and private schools, how will that affect your district? What is the appropriate response for the board of education of a public school system?We have the most sought after school district. We are fine. Capacity would be an issue.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Ensuring continuity of leadership at the Board level. We have a big turnover and as such, we need the most experienced management team possible to step in to ensure the mission of achieving higher levels of excellence is continuously achieved.Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Alan HanzlikWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?The value of hard work and honesty. My mother and father were both teachers and sacrificed everything so that we needed to succeed.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?I am truly blessed. Frank Sinatra had it right. I did it my way and I would be nothing but for tripping along the way.What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Anything that connected us to serving other people. Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam was our mission at Loyola and it stuck with me.If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?What you see, you believe, you will achieve. Work towards your goal no matter how many times you trip up along the way.
