Prioritize them, and briefly discuss why you believe each to be critical, and how the board should go about addressing them.1. Reducing the role of the Township Commissioner and it's weight on the budget.2. Transparency. Having the Elgin Township meeting broadcasting with more detailed meeting notes. 3. Engaging in the community. Having the Township newsletter printed again along with a youth and latino committee so they can have a voice in their township government.What should be the primary responsibility of township government?The primary role of Township government is property assessment, roads, and government assistance. Right now, we should be focusing on the process in which we give out to the various charities in the area.In the 21st Century, with municipalities gobbling up vacant land, why are townships needed? Should they be serving a new role? If so, what?Township government has it's place. However most of Elgin could be handled by the city of Elgin or the county in our case. Rural areas are more suited to that form of government.Are there any township offices that should be eliminated or consolidated?As a matter of fact of there should be. One could make the case for the Elgin Township itself. This would mean incorporating with not Elgin, but South Elgin as well. This decision would have to be settled by the voters of both area by referendum for this to happen.Can you identify some township expenses/programs that could be trimmed or eliminated to reduce the tax burden?For the Elgin Township it would be the Highway Commission. They only take care of approximately of 52 "lane miles".
