Injured Cary man charged with DUI on I-90

Illinois State Police have filed driving under the influence of drugs and other charges against a 23-year-old Cary man seriously injured after his vehicle struck the right guardrail Tuesday evening on westbound I-90 west of Higgins Road in Hoffman Estates.

Jarrid Arranz suffered multiple injuries, including partial amputation of a foot in the one-vehicle crash at 6:25 p.m., police said.

Arranz was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was reported in fair condition Wednesday.

His other charges include possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cannabis, improper lane use, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, not wearing a seat belt, having no insurance and not having his driver's license with him.

Arranz is scheduled to appear in court on April 17 at the Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows.

According to police, another motorist reported Arranz's blue 1993 Saturn Ion was traveling at a high rate of speed before it struck the guardrail and came to rest on its right side.

The two right lanes of I-90 were closed during the investigation. Arranz's car was towed from the scene at 8:22 p.m. and all lanes were reopened to traffic at 9:07 p.m.
