Man airlifted after vehicle runs into tree in Cary

A man was taken by helicopter to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville after a single-car accident in Cary Friday night.

The accident occurred at 8:02 p.m. near the intersection of West Rawson Bridge Road and Rona Street.

Cary Fire Protection District Capt. Carl Boni said a man in his late 20s driving a subcompact vehicle down West Rawson Bridge Road left the road and hit a small tree, landing 15 feet off the roadway.

Firefighters responded with eight vehicles.

Boni said the subject was taken by Flight for Life to Condell, although he was out of the car, sitting on the edge of a seat with the door open.

“We just felt that due to some lower extremity injuries, it would be a good idea to send him in a helicopter,” Boni said.

Boni said the scene was cleared around 8:45 p.m.

The incident is being investigated by the McHenry County sheriff's office.
