A 65-year-old Bolingbrook man was killed Thursday when the car he was driving struck a traffic signal post near Ogden Avenue and Route 59 in Naperville, authorities said.

The name of the driver is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Police said the man was alone in a 2015 Kia Optima when the crash occurred about 12:15 p.m., pinning him inside the vehicle. Firefighters extricated him and paramedics took him to Edward Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Police said it appears the man was driving east on Ogden when his car cut across the center median and entered the westbound lanes just east of Route 59. The Kia continued east in the westbound lanes until it struck the signal pole at the entrance of the Fox River Commons Shopping Center at 868 S. Route 59.

The crash remains under investigation.

Westbound Ogden Avenue was closed from Fort Hill Drive to Route 59 for roughly four hours during the initial stages of the probe.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has additional information is asked to call police at (630) 305-5379 or email
