Cubs will visit White House on Monday

The World Series champion Chicago Cubs will make a celebratory visit to the White House before President Barack Obama leaves office.

Multiple sources confirmed that the visit, first reported by WMAQ-Channel 5, is being planned for Monday.

A "significant majority" of the Cubs' roster was able to travel to Washington, D.C., that day, a source familiar with the matter said. It wasn't immediately available exactly how many members of the team, its front office and the Ricketts family, which owns the team, will attend.

President-elect Donald Trump has tapped Cubs co-owner Todd Ricketts to be Deputy Secretary of Commerce.

The Obama White House had been pushing for the visit to occur before Trump is sworn in on Jan. 20, the source said.
