Police: Man's death being investigated as homicide
The death of a man found with a gunshot wound in Libertyville is being investigated as a homicide, police said Saturday.
Libertyville police and the Lake County Major Crime Task Force have a person of interest in custody, authorities said, but no one had yet been charged as of Saturday evening.
"It's being treated as a homicide investigation," said Sgt. Christopher Covelli, a sergeant with the Lake County Sheriff's Office and spokesman for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force. "It's being considered an isolated incident."
Libertyville police were called about 11:23 p.m. Thursday to Milwaukee Avenue and Hollister Drive for a man slumped in a dark-colored Volkswagen Jetta.
The man, who suffered a single gunshot wound, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Covelli said there's an autopsy scheduled Sunday to determine the cause and manner of the victim's death. Then authorities will release the identity of the man.
Police ask people who may have information about this investigation to call the Libertyville Police Department at (847) 362-8310.
