The Hanover Township board of trustees voted unanimously Tuesday to put a referendum on the April 4 election ballot asking voters if the Township Road District should be abolished and consolidated with the township.

The Township Road District is currently responsible for approximately 13 miles of unincorporated roads.

If a majority of voters cast ballots approving the proposition, the Township Road District as a governmental entity would be abolished on Jan. 1, 2018, along with the elected position of township highway commissioner. The duties and responsibilities would then be assumed by the township govenrment.

Wheeling Township voters in November approved a similar ballot measure.
