For the first time since 1992, a Glenbard North High School Theatre production has been selected to be shared next month at the Illinois High School Theatre Festival.

To help students prepare for the festival, the cast and crew will present an encore performance of its production of "Smokefall" on Jan. 3.

Written by Noah Haidle, "Smokefall" is a family drama in which magical realism collides with manic vaudeville. Fetuses swap philosophy while awaiting their birth; a daughter eats dirt and doesn't speak; a father is about to drive away and never return; and there's an apple tree growing through the walls of the house.

Infused with tenderness and humor, "Smokefall" explores the lives of a family along with the themes of the fragility of life and the power of love.

The show will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Glenbard North, 990 Kuhn Road, Carol Stream. General admission tickets are $8 and available at the door. This will be the last time the community can see the show before it's performed at the festival.

The cast features Mia Silva as Violet, Eric Norman as Daniel/Fetus One, Andrew Brejla as Footnote/Fetus Two/Samuel, Brandon Luna as Colonel/Johnny, and Pooja Chafekar as Beauty.

The student production staff features stage managers Jacob Bender, Demi Dumovich and Katie Flynn; assistant to the technical director Marty O'Leary; props master Shannon Kliebhan; scenery master Abeer Fatima, costumes masters Jennah Hirsch and Kyle Krisch; lighting designer Rebecca Ellers; master electricians Cameron Lambert-Haak and Katie Perez; sound master Johnny Sem, publicity masters Matthew Balas and Meggan Gullickson; ticket wrangler Pooja Chafekar; and business/house manager Rebecca Munoz.

Crew members include Haley Battle, Raul Garcia, Anna Ledbetter, Nico Mendoza-Windha, Emilia Seidita, Tony Boccia, Alex Briggs, Hannah Camposeo, Bella Castillo, Sofia Castro Przybyla, Jacob Evans, Nate Fields, Trinity Ford, Ada Forsner, Donna Gieser, Natalie Gutierrez, Noah Mackiewicz, Akshar Patel, Kyle Peters, Natalia Zaragoza, Gretchen Molyneaux, Amalia Kovich, Madeline Serritella, Crystal Arredondo, Colin Bannon, Tony Boccia, Todd Campbell, Anthony DiPaolo, Darren Go, Alex Gonzalez, Georgia Grace, Crystal Lee, Keith Lyman, Becky Marshall, Vivianna Martinez, Nico Mendoza-Windham, Gretchen Molyneaux, Dylan Montano, Akshar Patel, Anna Sieg, Lisa Gentry, Bianca Aguilar, Natalie Anderson, Haley Battle and Brittney Pena.
