Mundelein company's employees support 2 Lake County groups

Lake County Haven and Libertyville Township Pantry were among five groups chosen as the recipients of charitable donations raised by employees of a Mundelein company.

On Friday, Dec. 2, representatives from the two organizations each received donations during a check presentation by Utopia Global Inc.'s CEO Arvind Singh, and COO Narinder Singh. Other recipients of this year's campaign include India-based Rainbow Home, the American India Foundation, and international humanitarian aid provider, International Red Cross.

More than $22,000 was raised by employees through the company's Joy of Giving initiative.

Organizations such as the Lake County Haven and Libertyville food pantry help to bridge the gap for many individuals and families who are experiencing economic challenges or are currently in transition. Libertyville Township Food Pantry provides food for families in need. Lake County Haven empowers homeless women and their children to achieve permanent, independent living through education, employment, and life-skills training to help them move from homelessness to independence.

Kate Ceithaml, outreach coordinator for Lake County Haven, and Kathleen O'Connor, supervisor for Libertyville Food Pantry, said the impact of the donations will be far-reaching for the community.

"Approximately 50 percent to 75 percent of our residents have experienced some type of abuse," Ceithaml said. "They are like people we know. They're our friends, our sisters, our mothers. We are grateful for this donation to assist in our efforts."

Haven has an 82 percent success rate in assisting residents move to permanent housing and strives to help program participants break the cycle of homelessness.

O'Connor said it is an example of neighbors helping neighbors.

"If not for these donations, many people would not be able to provide the needed food for their family," she said.
