Drop off new toys at Kildeer School

On Oct. 26, the Kildeer Countryside Elementary School Student Council and its sponsor, Leslie Norman, welcomed U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Christopher Smith to the Long Grove school to discuss the 2016 Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign and their role in it.

In addition to learning about the history of Toys for Tots, the Kildeer fifth-graders were given information to help them understand the magnitude of this national annual effort to collect and distribute age-appropriate toys to less fortunate children.

The students also had many questions for their visitor about what it is like to be a U.S. Marine - from his responsibilities and where he lives to the significance of the stripes and bars on his dress uniform.

Kildeer students are eager to make this collection effort a success and are creating posters and making morning announcements to remind classmates to participate.

They're asking families to deliver new, packaged (but not gift-wrapped) toys and games to Kildeer School no later than Wednesday, Dec. 14. The toys can be sent with students or brought to the school office from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays when school is in session.
