Pedestrian killed by Metra train near Mount Prospect

Metra officials say a person was struck and killed by an inbound train Thursday morning near Mount Prospect.

The unidentified pedestrian was struck at 6:55 a.m. just south of the Mount Prospect train station after the Metra Union Pacific Northwest train had already pulled away toward its next stop at Cumberland, Metra officials said.

Tracks were shut down in both directions for nearly an hour and a half, but have reopened. However, trains in either direction are still running about an hour behind schedule, officials said.

CTA was accepting ticketed Metra riders at all stops along the Blue Line from Rosemont into downtown, Metra officials said.

The pedestrian's death is still under investigation.
