Students honor teacher who died at Buffalo Grove HS

Buffalo Grove High School students are finding ways to honor teacher Stephanie Ramos, who collapsed and died in the school building Monday.

BG Gives Back, a student-led club at the school, is collecting cards and letters from students and staff members that they plan to give to the Ramos family, according to Jennifer Delgado, a spokeswoman for Northwest Suburban High School District 214.

Another student group, BG Cares, is creating a mini scrapbook/journal to give to the family. For the next two to three days, each school department will get the scrapbook so staff members can write a message about their co-worker.

Ramos, 39, a world languages instructor, collapsed and fell into the doorway of an open room at 4 p.m. Monday, after students had left for the day. It wasn't until 8:30 p.m. that she was discovered unresponsive on the ground by a school staff member, police said.

An autopsy Tuesday found Ramos died of natural causes.

Visitation for Ramos is scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave. in Wheeling. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Joseph the Worker, 181 W. Dundee Road in Wheeling.

Donations can be made to the Latino Parent Organization at Buffalo Grove High School, 1100 W. Dundee Road. Ramos was responsible for organizing the group, which provides scholarships to Latino students and gives Latino parents the opportunity to get involved at the school, Delgado said.
