Prospect Marching Knights prepare for Macy's parade
Prospect High School's Marching Knights were hard at work Monday preparing for what they hope will be a performance of a lifetime when they march past Central Park and through Midtown Manhattan as part of the 2016 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The Marching Knights are one of eight high school bands from across the country, from more than 175 worldwide applicants, selected to perform in the 90th annual edition of the parade, which steps off at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24. A crowd of about 3.5 million will see the parade live and 50 million more will be watching on television.
Band members learned they were chosen way back in the spring of 2015, and have been planning for the big day ever since. When announcing the band's selection 18 months ago, Wesley Whatley, the parade's creative director, called the Marching Knights "one of the finest (band) programs in the country."
The band has three more full practices scheduled before they head to New York City Nov. 20.
