Advocate Sherman to use local grant to host indoor farmers market

Advocate Sherman Hospital will host a monthly Indoor Farmers Market, beginning this Thursday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at their hospital's lake level, 1425 N. Randall Road, Elgin.

Organized by the Downtown Neighborhood Association's Downtown Elgin Harvest Market and Shared Harvest: Elgin Food Cooperative, there will be vendors onsite with local produce, meat, baked goods and other locally grown and produced items. In addition to shopping at the farmer's market, the hospital will provide various information for healthy living and screenings.

Aligning the same week as the nationwide "Food Day," which encourages healthy, affordable and sustainable food; Advocate Sherman Hospital also received a Sodium Reduction Initiative grant from the Kane County Health Department for various sodium reducing projects, including funding this indoor market.

The indoor farmers market will be open on the second Tuesday of every month: Nov. 10, Dec. 8, Jan. 12, Feb. 9 and March 9, 2017.
