Fortunes, ghost stories and soul cakes at 'Halloween + History'

The widow has gone on a visit, and her granddaughter doesn't mind flaunting the proprieties of the time to have a party in the fine old house where her grandfather died just 10 months ago.

Accept Miss Fannie's invitation and return to a time when the parlor piano provided the soundtrack for a heady mix of old ghost stories and newly-invented photography, of fortune telling, mischievous children and a superstitious housekeeper. Oh, and soul cakes.

Entries to this walk through "Halloween + History" will take place at 6:30, 7, 7:30 and 8 p.m. Oct. 28, 29 and 30 at the Tanner House Museum, 304 Oak Ave., Aurora. Entry fee is $15 per person and $12 for Aurora Historical Society members.

The event is for those age 13 and older; those younger than age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Reservations are required at online at www.aurorahistory.net or by calling (630) 906-0650.
