Costumes, food and goodies at Trunk or Treat in Round Lake Beach

Families in central Lake County got an early start on Halloween fun Sunday when the Round Lake Calvary Presbyterian Church hosted Trunk or Treat at the Round Lake Beach Metra station.

Little masked superheroes, winged dragons and cute princesses gathered candy from congregation members who stood by the decorated trunks of their vehicles during the second annual event.

"Trunk or Treat is a safe way to celebrate Halloween. Members of our congregation get here and bring candy, decorate the trunk of their cars, and invite community children to come in and get candy," said church elder Jim Beverly.

"I'm going trick-or-treating and I'm also giving out candy to kids," said Neve Stateler, 6, of Round Lake Beach, who dressed as a birthday cake. "I like to see smiles on children's faces."

Round Lake Beach's villagewide trick-or-treating is Sunday, Oct. 30, from 1 to 4 p.m. Round Lake, Round Lake Park and Round Lake Heights have trick-or-treating hours Sunday, Oct. 30, from 1 to 5 p.m.
