Girls cross country: Aurora CC, Harvest Christian produce regional champs

Aurora Central Catholic senior Abby Fioresi won the individual championship in a time of 17:57 Saturday at the Class 2A Hinsdale South girls cross country regional.

ACC also advanced as a team to the Wheaton Academy sectional by finishing sixth.

Rosary finished second in the team race, led by Claire Hengesbaugh (2nd) and Megan Ronzone (7th).

Class 1A at Winnebago: Harvest Christian took second as a team behind Richmond-Burton to advance to the Oregon sectional. The Lions' Nygia Pollard was the individual champion in a time of 16:48.

Class 3A at West Chicago: Geneva finished second to Naperville North as a team and will advance to the West Aurora sectional. Sophia McDonnell (2nd) and Andrine Larsen (4th) led the Vikings. St. Charles East, St. Charles North and Bartlett finished 4-5-6 to advance as well. Anna Arrick (8th) led SCE, Audrey Ernst (2nd) was the North Stars' top runner and Coral McFarland (17th) led Bartlett. Advancing individuals included Streamwood's Madeline Exline (11th) and Elgin's Kasey Moreno (12th).

Class 3A at Batavia: Batavia finished in third place to advance to the West Aurora sectional. Audrey Pellico (5th) and Marygrace Golden (9th) led the Bulldogs. West Aurora advanced Alyssa Mayhew (25th), Josslin Scull (37th) and Kaitlyn Hollar (42nd) as individuals.

Class 3A at Grant: Crystal Lake South (4th) and Cary-Grove (5th) each advanced as teams to the Waukegan sectional. Caitlin Bruzzini (5th) paced the Gators and Allison Drage (13th) was Cary-Grove's top runner. Individuals advancing included Dundee-Crown's Sylvia Waz (8th) along with Jacobs' Alyson Doherty (16th) and Isabelle Friend (27th).

Class 2A at Burlington Central: Kaneland, Burlington Central and Hampshire all advanced to the Wheaton Academy sectional by finishing 3-4-5 in the team race. BC's Megan Safranski was the individual champion in a time of 17:35.04. Rachel Richtman (3rd) was Kaneland's top runner while Sophia Oury (7th) paced Hampshire.

Class 1A at Lisle: St. Edward, led by Madeline Ellsworth (2nd) and Olivia Reamer (7th) took third place as a team to advance to the Oregon sectional. Aurora Christian's Analiese Hudson (12th) advanced as an individual.
