Prepared for crisis

It has been said that there is nothing like a crisis to clarify things. We need to be certain that the person we elect President is prepared to mitigate and solve whatever crises confront us as a nation.

By almost any measure, Hillary Clinton is far better prepared to take on the challenges of the Presidency than Donald Trump; neither of the third party candidates has said or done anything to make them a credible alternative.

Donald Trump may be seen by some who desire change above all else as a "maverick outsider" who will "shake up the Washington establishment," but he has shown absolutely none of the attributes needed to govern.

His negative rhetoric, lack of knowledge regarding how governments functions, and unwillingness to do the work necessary to gain the skills needed by a President, promise little more than gridlock and potential chaos.

While Hillary Clinton's years in Washington have saddled her, fairly or unfairly, with much political baggage, they have also made her the most prepared candidate for the presidency that we have seen in many years. Contrary to what her political enemies have tried and failed to prove, Secretary Clinton's shortcomings and admitted mistakes have neither threatened the republic nor come close to disqualifying her for the office.

There is little question that when the crisis comes, she will be far more capable of handling it than a man with no experience in public service whose campaign has displayed poor judgment and uneven temperament.

For our system of government to function properly we need, at a minimum, a President who is competent, able to minimize risks at home and abroad, and able to keep cool in time of crisis. At this time, that person is Hillary Clinton.
