So much has been made of Jon Lester's contract with the Chicago Cubs. But when it has counted, Lester has been money. Lester showed again last night why he's among the leading candidates for the Cy Young Award. While his team struggled for runs early, Lester was holding the Los Angeles Dodgers at bay in Game 5 of the National League championship series. Police: 'Highly intoxicated' man assaulted Arlington Heights officers

A "highly intoxicated" Des Plaines man assaulted three Arlington Heights officers after police found him sleeping with his head in some bushes, authorities said. Police responded to a well-being check at 11:45 p.m. Oct. 15 at Arlington Heights and Central roads, Sgt. Thomas Henderson said. Full story.

Woman convicted of killing cat in Elmhurst faces resentencing

A woman convicted in the stabbing death of a family cat in Elmhurst is now accused of tampering with an alcohol monitoring device she was ordered to wear. Kelly Palermo, 51, of Chicago, was sentenced last month to 30 months' probation and 90 days in jail after she pleaded guilty to aggravated animal cruelty in her role in killing the cat, named Zeppelin. She was fined $5,000 and banned for life from owning a pet. Full story.

Demolition firm hired by Rosemont contributed to mayor's campaign

Rosemont Mayor Bradley Stephens says there was no quid pro quo between him and an Elgin demolition company that has contributed to his campaigns.

A troubled construction company hired multiple times for demolitions in Rosemont was a major contributor to its mayor's election campaigns. Bradley Stephens received more than $80,000 in donations from Omega Demolition Corp. since becoming Rosemont's mayor in 2007, according to state records. Stephens said there is no conflict of interest but one political watchdog called the situation an ethical dilemma. Full story.

Money pouring into comptroller's race

At the end of June, Democrat Susana Mendoza's campaign coffers held nearly four times what Republican incumbent state Comptroller Leslie Munger had available to spend on the race. That all changed during a seven-day span in late September when Munger's campaign received $5,323,500, largely from two Chicago-area businessmen with close ties to Gov. Bruce Rauner. Full story.

Naperville Central High School grad Candace Parker had 28 points and 12 rebounds to earn MVP honors of the Finals last night. It was Parker's first WNBA title as the Los Angeles Sparks got a 77-76 victory over the defending champion Minnesota Lynx. Full story.
